The "new" Jewish family. What is that? As Jews, we are taught that family is everything. Our morals, values, and life paths are provided to us by our family. The family is the strength of the Jewish religion and the bond between family members has been keeping our religion and traditions alive.
Then why is it so freakin' frustrating and hard to deal with?! So many do's and don'ts. So many passive aggressive tactics. The Jewish family is a labyrinth of hidden agendas and unspeakable opinions. Enough is enough.
We embark on a dangerous journey. It will be filled with tears, laughter, regret, and that other emotion... The one we all know and love. The feeling that monopolizes our time. The emotion that finds a way into every question, situation, and decision. G-U-I-L-T. Guilt. Oy gevalt, the guilt we feel.
That very emotion will be the foundation for this exploration into the Jewish family. Our goal is to pick it apart, turn it on its side, upside down and inside out. We want to discover why our lives are ruled by the unwritten laws of our tradition. As we contribute our stories, theories, and ideas, please provide your own. We know we can't do this alone.
